Knaresborough Town Council is seeking a town development manager – a new role that will “lead the economic growth” of the town.
The council today (January 22) said it has started recruiting for the town development manager, which “reflects the council’s ambition” to bolster Knaresborough’s economy and local businesses.
The successful candidate, who will work a 25-hour week, will be responsible for town centre and market management, including the “strategic and commercial development and rebranding of Knaresborough Market”.
The town development manager will also play a role in creating an economic strategy for Knaresborough and a business plan for the weekly market.
Responsibilities will also include managing town and market budgets, hosting events, establishing partnerships and securing external funding to support local initiatives.

Knaresborough is a vibrant and much-loved market town, and we are looking for a community minded Town Development Manager who can build on our strengths, support local businesses, and help shape a sustainable and prosperous future for the town.
The council added it is a seeking a “proactive and commercially minded individual” with experience in town centre management, economic development, markets, regeneration or similar fields.
It said:
Strong financial skills, stakeholder engagement experience and excellent communication abilities are essential. Experience in market management, events, tourism, grant funding, or sustainable economic development would be advantageous.
The role is offered on a one-year fixed-term contract, with the potential for extension, and includes membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme. The salary range is £40,000–£45,000 pro rata.
