Yorkshire County Cricket Club has announced that wicketkeeper Jonny Tattersall will leave at the end of the season.

A statement from the club today confirmed the news, thanking the Knaresborough-born star for his service.

Tattersall, 30, has spent 12 years with the club, making his debut in 2013. Since then, he has represented the club in all formats.

He spent a year away from Headingley in 2021, when he went on loan to Gloucestershire and Surrey.

But last season, the wicketkeeper-batter played a pivotal role in Yorkshire’s promotion from Division Two of the County Championship.

In the absence of Shan Masood, Tattersall captained the side on multiple occasions, steering them towards the division above. He scored 643 runs, including two centuries, and made 28 catches.

He said:

It’s been a huge honour to represent Yorkshire. Wearing the White Rose has meant so much to me. Coming back to the Club after a year away and being able to captain the side was something I could only have dreamed of.

I’d like to thank my teammates for the part they have played in my life, especially the last 18 months. I’ll be forever grateful to each and every one of them. The memories of last season as a team are ones I will never forget. New opportunities have arisen for me which I cannot turn down and I’m excited for what’s ahead.

Lastly, I’d like to thank the supporters – being able to take the field at Headingley in front of Yorkshire crowds has been a privilege. I wish everyone at Yorkshire the best going forward.

Tattersall spent time in Yorkshire’s Academy and captained its under-17s side.

In the instances where he hasn’t been selected for Yorkshire this term, he has returned to play for his boyhood club — Knaresborough Cricket Club.

Yorkshire’s general manager of cricket, Gavin Hamilton, said:

Jonny has given everything to the Club and shown tremendous professionalism throughout his time here. He’s a respected figure in the dressing room, and a great ambassador for Yorkshire Cricket. His dedication on and off the field has been exceptional.

We’d like to thank him for everything he has done and wish him all the very best for the future.

Tattersall will remain available for selection until the end of the season.
