Knaresborough golfer John Parry will look to take his career earnings towards the $1 million mark at the PGA Championship, which gets underway in the United States today.
Parry, who is ranked 87th in the world, is enjoying a strong first season on golf’s premier tour.
He has made the cut in all 11 tournaments and achieved one top 10 finish to win $628,000 in 2026 alone.
It represents a remarkable late-career resurgence for Parry, who is playing the best golf of his life at the age of 39.
He moved to America after qualifying for the PGA tour in 2025, when his many highlights included finishing 16th and achieving a hole in one at The Open.
Parry, who was born in Knaresborough and went to the town's King James’s School, spoke to us at the end of last year. You can read the interview here.
The PGA Championship, which is being played at Aronimink Golf Club in Pennsylvania, is one of the sport’s four major championships each year.
The winner will receive $3.4 million and although the likes of world number one Scottie Scheffler and US Masters champion Rory McIlroy are more likely to be in contention for that, the total purse is $19 million so it gives Parry a chance to advance his career earnings from $955,000 towards $1 million.
He is due to tee off at 5.15pm UK time today along¬side Andrew Novak and Jordan Gumberg.
Dan Brown, from Northallerton, will make his PGA Championship debut.
