The land train set to be trailed in Knaresborough next week has been postponed.
Last month North Yorkshire councillors approved spending £15,000 on a feasibility study for a land train in Knaresborough to improve connectivity across the town.
The trail was planned to take place over the October half term and carry passengers from Waterside into the town centre and back.
In an update shared to social media the Knaresborough & District Chamber has announced the delay.
It said that the land train may be trialled in the Easter half term next year instead.
The update said:
Knaresborough & District Chamber, working with other groups in the town, continues to drive connectivity across Knaresborough. We’re therefore disappointed that the proposed Land Train trial is having to be postponed.
Having been recommended for funding at the North Yorkshire Council Area Committee on 12 September, and since then working in good faith with North Yorkshire Council to finalise all the permissions, the timetable has proved impossible.
Having received broad support from residents and businesses, we continue to advance the plans. For many years, we’ve been pursuing this kind of positive investment to achieve greater connectivity, so perhaps a few extra months to get it ‘on the road’ will be worth the wait.
Although we would have loved this project to be on the road, we need to make sure it’s absolutely right for the future of Knaresborough’s long-term connectivity.
Whilst October half term would’ve have been a good time to run the trial perhaps Easter will prove even better, so watch this space for further news.
The Stray Ferret approached Knaresborough & District Chamber for further details on the postponement, but did not receive a response by the time of publication.
