A climbing centre in Harrogate has announced a discounted beginner’s climbing course over the summer months, to coincide with the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Yorkshire-based adventure company Live For Today is offering 30 per cent off for customers using the code SUMMER30 until September 2 when they sign up for the newcomer’s package, which includes three two hour sessions, led by one of their qualified instructors.

The Harrogate Climbing Centre, located at Hornbeam Park, runs regular beginner’s courses, that promise to help turn participants into ‘confident top rope climbers’.

Over the course of the three sessions, climbers will learn essential skills such as setting up equipment, tying secure knots, mastering belaying techniques and gaining confidence when climbing.

Izak Jackson of Live For Today said:

Due to the popularity of climbing at the Olympics, we thought it's good to give people the opportunity to try out the sport.

We’ve had people take part in the courses before that are scared of heights and climbing actually helps them overcome that – it’s actually quite common.

Sport climbing was first introduced to the Olympics in 2020 at the Tokyo games and has proven to be a popular addition, for its feats of both speed and endurance.

It was the top trending Olympic sport on Google Search when it made its debut four years ago, and since then the number of indoor climbers has increased at a faster rate than the number of people taking out gym memberships.

The Paris 2024 Olympics is now in full swing, with the sport climbing events scheduled to take place between August 5 - 7.

The Harrogate Climbing Centre has the facilitates for all three Olympic climbing events – speed climbing, bouldering and sport climbing – across 60 climbing lines and two dedicated bouldering areas.

Routes – also known as ‘problems’ – are changed every couple of days to ‘keep things fresh’ and to offer returning climbers new challenges.

Catering for a range of abilities and ages, the climbing centre also offers kids’ sessions and parties, memberships, a range of development classes, and nationally recognised qualifications such as the National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme (NICAS).

A short distance from Hornbeam Park train station, and with ample parking available, the Harrogate Climbing Centre is easily accessible.

Equipment can be hired, and there’s also an onsite café serving a selection of hot and cold drinks and other refreshments.

Izak added:

I hope the Olympics inspires even more people to give climbing a go – the beginner’s course is designed to help people feel confident in their own abilities.
