Leeds Bradford Airport has unveiled three new security lanes which will double capacity and help with passenger flow at the airport.
The airport said the new lanes form part of its new central search zone and marked a milestone in its LBA:REGEN programme.
From this month, three new extra-long security lanes will be open to passengers, while a further two lanes are expected to come into operation at the end of the year.
Vincent Hodder, chief executive at Leeds Bradford Airport, said the new search zone would help to create a “a more efficient, more comfortable journey for our customers”.
He said:
The opening of our new central search zone is a landmark moment for Leeds Bradford Airport and a major milestone in the delivery of our LBA:REGEN programme.
This is a truly transformational investment that will significantly enhance the passenger experience. Not only are we increasing capacity, but we're introducing some of the most advanced security processing technology available at any UK regional airport.
The airport said the new security lanes will help increase capacity and provide a “faster, smarter and more seamless experience for passengers”.
The lanes are capable of processing up to 600 passengers per hour compared with 350 passengers per hour previously.
Meanwhile, the new facilities also include dynamic virtual queue management, which will allow the airport to manage passenger flow and reduce waiting times during busy periods.

The new area also includes six eGates for boarding card scanning, helping passengers move efficiently into the security search area.
The airport said routes have been introduced for both passengers requiring assistance and fast track customers.
New escalators to world duty free have also been introduced to help “enhance the flow through the departure lounge”.
The opening of the central search zone forms a key part of Leeds Bradford Airport's long-term vision to modernise its infrastructure and improve operational efficiency.
