Harrogate charity Saint Michael’s Hospice has announced it will hold a new fundraising race for up to 1,000 people next year.
The first Saint Michael’s Harrogate 10K, 5K and Bluey-inspired Littlies Run will take place on Sunday, March 1.
Participants will start at Saint Michael’s Hospice on Hornbeam Park and embark on a route around Crimple Valley.
The charity said in a news release today it would be a “fun, family-friendly day” for “runners, joggers and walkers of all abilities to enjoy scenic routes while supporting Saint Michael’s Hospice in its mission to provide compassionate end-of-life care for people across the Harrogate district”.
Saint Michael’s ambassadors and former Leeds United footballer and coach Eddie Gray and his wife Linda Gray are encouraging people to take part.
Their son, former Celtic player Stuart Gray, was helped by Saint Michael’s before he died at the age of 50 in January last year.
Eddie said:
Anything to help the hospice is the important thing. People will enjoy the run, it keeps you fit and lets people know what the hospice is all about. It’s a charity that has to raise money in any way it can for the benefit of the people in Harrogate, and that’s the most important thing. Take part in it. Our son was looked after very well at Saint Michael’s, and it meant a lot to us that Stuart was cared for there.
Early bird entries are now open at £14 for the 10K and 5K events until 17 November 2025, after which entry will be £18.
Children aged 6 to 15 can take part in the 5K run for free, while the Bluey-inspired Littlies Run, designed especially for younger children, is free for all under-16s.
