Harrogate record label to release Marching on Together on vinyl
A Harrogate-based independent record label is pressing the original 1972 recordings of Leeds United anthems Marching on Together and Leeds United on seven-inch vinyl.
Barrel and Squidger Records is set to mark the first physical reissue of the songs in 54 years.
Leeds! Leeds! Leeds!, better known as Marching on Together, was released in 1972 to coincide with the club reaching the centenary FA Cup Final, which they won 1-0 against Arsenal.
The song has since become a club anthem and is played before every home game at Elland Road.
Owner Jason Hodgson said he decided to license the tracks after noticing it had not been available as a seven-inch single for several decades.
He said:
I'm always on the lookout for an interesting new project. For Leeds United fans, Marching On Together has grown and grown in popularity over the years.
As a big fan myself, I noticed it hadn't been available as a seven-inch single for several decades – and the original hit single's pairing of those two particular tracks hasn't been reproduced at all since 1972.
Vinyl is back in a big way, especially amongst younger generations. So I licensed the original audio and designed a modern-day product.
The vinyl pressing can be purchased in any of the Leeds United colours (blue, yellow, or white) and will be accompanied by a special picture sleeve.
The record costs £14.99 and must be pre-ordered before August 17 (or before the maximum order limit is reached).
Barrel and Squidger Records is a small independent label, but one that has punched well above its weight in recent years in the UK physical singles chart.
Last year, Hodgson released Theme tune from Barrel and Squidger Records in collaboration with CJ Wildheart, of rock band The Wildhearts. The single peaked at number two, beating out Ariana Grande and David Bowie.
On whether another chart run is possible, Hodgson said:
We've really mixed it among the big boys in previous campaigns, beating some huge major artists with backing from billion-dollar corporations. We're confident of a sizeable hit this time around too. Obviously, the more you support it, the higher it could chart!
