Harrogate certainly doesn’t have a shortage of beautiful buildings – and for one artist, the town served as inspiration for his next collection of work.
Primarily based in London, Tom Flint is an experienced artist, specialising in stunning oil paintings of vistas or cityscapes, on a variety of canvases.
While many of his previous pieces have featured dramatic views across London city, including the River Thames, its bridges and other iconic landmarks, now Tom has turned his attention to representing Yorkshire through his art.
After visiting relatives who recently located to Harrogate, he was taken with the Victorian architecture, especially when exploring the town centre.
He described himself as drawn to ‘the hidden histories and the silent echoes of past lives’ that buildings can embody, and Harrogate’s rich heritage was a subject he felt drawn to commit to canvas.
He explained:
Harrogate is not only a cherished place where my brother lives but also a town that I visited in my formative years as an art student at Leeds.
This unique bond influences my artistic approach, imbuing my work with a profound appreciation for the town's intricate Victorian architecture and its atmospheric qualities.
Walking around and observing the grand houses that line Harrogate’s streets, I sensed a spectral presence, a ghostly aura that speaks of bygone eras.
The Harrogate collection launched this month, and features recognisable landscapes and buildings, including the Knaresborough aqueduct, Trinity Methodist Church and more.
Alongside his Harrogate and London collections, which can be viewed online, Tom also takes commissions – meaning that art lovers can have Tom apply his unique creativity and technical expertise to a subject or scene of their choosing.
The commissioning process is detailed in full at www.flintgallery.com.
Whether it’s the view across the Thames for a private residence, a statement piece depicting The Shard for an office reception, or one of the many striking buildings around Harrogate given as a gift, Tom’s art is timeless possesion.
Tom added:
My paintings of Harrogate are more than representations of its architectural beauty.
They are explorations of the town’s atmospheric depths, its historical mysteries, and its vibrant contradictions.
Through my art, I hope to offer viewers a glimpse into the rich tapestry of Harrogate, inviting them to see beyond the surface and engage with the profound sense of place that Harrogate embodies for me.
