The proposed plan for the Grove Road development.

A planning application had been for a major development in Harrogate.

Under the proposals, five blocks would be built on Grove Road, just off Skipton Road and by Grove Road School, to be used as offices and other commercial purposes.

The application has been made to North Yorkshire Council by NYPD Grove Road Ltd, which provides serviced office spaces and runs 55 Grove Road.

Currently, the proposed development site contains a business centre, industrial building and vacant space.

The site occupies 53–55 Grove Road on the northern side of the street, between its junctions with Chatsworth Place to the west and Dragon Parade to the east.

55 Grove Road, a former Wesleyan Methodist building, is used as a small business centre and workspace.

The proposal seeks to retain the existing use of this block and to extend it to provide additional office space and to develop a larger café for public use.

The adjacent Block A, a former industrial building in poor structural condition, would be demolished and replaced by a building of similar scale, to provide office accommodation across two floors as well as underground parking.

Block C, also a former industrial building, is set to be redeveloped to form a wellness centre.

The currently vacant site will also have offices built on it.

An extensive number of supporting documents have been provided alongside the planning application, with proposed pictures showing the buildings intending to fit in with the current aesthetic of the road, notably being grey in colour.

You can see them by typing in reference 26/03697/FUL on North Yorkshire Council's planning portal here.

A design and access statement in support of the proposal says:

The proposal delivers a mixed-use commercial scheme comprising serviced offices, a café and flexible Class E commercial floorspace, together with associated courtyard, parking and servicing. The development expands and complements the existing successful business use at No. 55 Grove Road, retaining the site in employment-generating use. The architectural expression of the proposal is contemporary, but firmly rooted in the heritage context of Grove Road.
