A Harrogate cupcake company has closed its York branch nearly two years after its opening.
Mama Doreen’s Emporium opened in Harrogate in 2009 and moved to its current site on Station Square in 2019.
It opened the shop in the Vangarde Shopping Par in York in November 2023.
However, in a social media post, Mama Doreen’s said it had taken the “difficult decision” to close the store. The store in Harrogate will remain open.
It said:
It’s been a truly magical journey in York, and while we’re so proud of everything our team achieved there, we have now made the difficult decision to close our York Emporium.
We want to thank every guest who joined us, celebrated with us, and made York such a special part of the Mama Doreen’s story. But this isn’t goodbye, far from it.
Our Harrogate emporium remains open and as full of joy, cake, and creativity as ever, with our much loved themed afternoon teas, brunches, and special events continuing all year round.

The move comes after MD Trading (Harrogate) Ltd, which trades as Mama Doreen’s Emporium, entered creditors' voluntary liquidation on September 25.
According to a public notice in The Gazette, the company appointed Julian Pitts and Richard Kenworthy of Begbies Traynor (Central) LLP in Leeds as liquidators.
According to a statement of affairs, signed by director Justine Hall, the company owed £582,000 to creditors, of which £357,535 was owed to His Majesty's Revenue and Customs in VAT, employees PAYE and national insurance.
Other amounts owed were £81,254 to food company Frank & Wolf Ltd in York, £32,841 to NatWest Bank and £28,000 to British Gas.
The Stray Ferret approached Mama Doreen’s Emporium for comment on the notice, but did not receive a response by the time of publication.
