Man admits causing serious injury by careless driving on Harrogate's Parliament Street
A taxi driver has admitted causing serious injury to a woman by careless driving on Harrogate’s Parliament Street.
Shahid Hussain, of Cameron Grove in Bradford, appeared before Harrogate Magistrates Court on Thursday (June 11) where he spoke to confirm his name, date of birth and address.
Hussain, 47, admitted one count of causing serious injury by careless driving on September 27, 2025.
Sarah Tyrer, prosecuting, told the court that the 47-year-old was driving a black Toyota down Parliament Street at around 11.45pm on the night. He was working as a taxi driver.
Ms Tyrer said the named victim was crossing the road from the Revolution de Cuba bar to the former Debenhams building.
She told the court:
For whatever reason, as he was driving down the road he went into the right hand lane and collided with [named victim] when she had made her way onto the pavement.
Ms Tyrer said the victim was knocked onto Hussain’s windscreen. She suffered a fractured back and pelvis as well as a bleed on the brain.
Hussain’s defence said the incident was a "momentary lapse in concentration" and he was remorseful.
They asked magistrates to adjourn the case for a pre-sentence report to be prepared.
He will appear before Harrogate Magistrates Court for another hearing on August 6, 2026.
