A man has admitted possessing cannabis and cocaine with intent to supply in Sharow.
Leigh Carr, 40, of Peterlee in County Durham, appeared before Harrogate Magistrates Court on Friday (August 22) where he spoke to confirm his name, date of birth and address.
Carr pleaded guilty to possessing 868 grams of cannabis and 58 grams of cocaine with intent to supply on Dishforth Road in Sharow on March 10, 2023.
He also admitted being in possession of criminal property on the same date, namely £3,450 in cash.
Alison Whiteley, prosecuting, told the court that Carr was stopped in his car by police on March 10, who carried out a search and found the quantity of cannabis and cocaine in his vehicle.
His home address was then search, where weighing scales for drugs were also found.
Ms Whiteley told the court that the matter was a “street dealing” case and that Carr had previous convictions for drug use.
However, Peter Minnikin, defending, disputed that the case was a matter of street dealing and told the court that the 40-year-old was selling drugs to fund his own addiction.
He said:
There are no mobile phones, no debt lists or anything of that matter. He says at the time he had a cannabis problem and was selling it to fund that problem and that is born out by his record.
Magistrates adjourned the case for sentencing at crown court.
Carr will appear for sentencing at York Crown Court on September 16.
