A man has been arrested after a hit-and-run collision near Pateley Bridge.
19-year-old Bailey Chadwick died after being struck on the B6265 at Lupton Bank – a road that runs between Pateley Bridge and Glasshouses – in the early hours of Sunday morning (July 20).
Bailey was walking home after spending time with friends in Pateley Bridge, before which he worked at The Royal Oak, and is believed to have been crossing the road when he was hit.
He died sometime between 1.44am and 3.10am.
North Yorkshire Police has issued several appeals to locate the driver, who fled the scene, and Bailey’s mother and stepfather urged the driver to “do the right thing” in an emotional public appeal on Wednesday.
In an update this morning (July 25), police said officers investigating the fatal collision arrested a man in his 20s on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving late last night.
He remains in police custody at this time.
The force has urged the public not to speculate on social media to avoid prejudicing any potential court proceedings.
Officers are still urging anyone with information to come forward:
