A silver pendant dating back to early medieval times has been found near Boroughbridge.
An inquest to determine whether the pendant should be deemed treasure was held at Northallerton Coroner’s Court today.
Area coroner Catherine Cundy told the inquest a man named Anthony Cox found the pendant in the parish of Cundall with Leckby on October 20, 2019.
It was described as an early medieval silver pendant, and is believed to date back to between 500 and 1,000 AD.
The pendant was described as either a Christian or Latin cross.
Ms Cundy declared the pendant treasure at the end of the hearing.
No details of what will happen to the pendant, including whether it would be sold to a museum, were heard in court.
Cundall village has a rich history dating back to the Roman times and is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 as ‘Cundel’.
It is also a Thankful Village, which means the residents who fought in World War One all returned alive.
