A man has been jailed after attacking a police officer in Harrogate.
Benjamin Donnelly, 39, appeared at York Magistrates Court yesterday (January 6) when he admitted assaulting an emergency worker by beating.
According to court documents, Donnelly assaulted a named police constable at Harrogate Police Station on September 17 last year.
Donnelly, whose address was given as both no fixed address and the Allerton Road area of Bradford, was handed an eight-week prison sentence.
The defendant was also ordered to pay £100 in compensation to the officer.
Court documents add a custodial sentence is justified due to the “unprovoked attack of a serious nature” and Donnelly’s “flagrant disregard for people and their property”.
He also has a history of violent offending.
