A man who stole more than £4,000 worth of items from a supermarket in Ripon has been jailed.
Kenneth Brown, 39, appeared at York Magistrates Court yesterday (April 8), where he pleaded guilty to six counts of theft.
All of the offences happened at Booths in Ripon.
Court documents say Brown entered the Marshall Way supermarket on December 12, 2024, and stole £815.50 worth of items.
He stole £576 worth of goods from the store on January 8, 2025, and then £749 worth of stock on February 1.
The defendant returned to the supermarket two weeks later (February 15) when he stole £349.50 worth of items, and again on February 22 to steal items to the value of £625.75.
Brown’s final theft at the store, which happened on March 5, was the highest value: he stole £974.25 worth of stock belonging to Booths.
The total value of the stolen goods was £4,090.
Brown, of Eastdean Drive in Leeds, was sentenced to a total of 12 months behind bars. Court documents say the custodial sentence was justified as the defendant has a “flagrant disregard for people and their property”.
He was also ordered to pay a £187 surcharge.
