A man who threatened staff and damaged Christmas crackers at a Harrogate shop was sentenced at York Magistrates Court on Monday (June 30).
Adam Clarkson, of Auckland Way in Whitby, pleaded guilty to three offences on May 19, four offences on June 19 and a further two offences during yesterday’s hearing.
Clarkson was sentenced for all nine offences at the hearing.
According to court records, Clarkson assaulted a named man by beating him at Sainsbury’s Local on Leeds Road on December 13 last year.
On the same day, the 29-year-old stole a sandwich and a hummus pot worth £5 from the same store, and intentionally damaged Christmas crackers valued at £5.
Clarkson also used threatening, abusive or insulting language with intention to cause fear of unlawful violence towards three named staff members at Sainsbury’s that day.
Clarkson’s behaviour led the victims to believe violence would be used against them, the court document adds.
On February 25, Clarkson threatened a named woman and assaulted a police officer in Scarborough.
He also damaged a police vehicle to an unknown value.
In addition, Clarkson yesterday admitted two offences of failing to surrender to Scarborough Magistrates Court on June 26, having previously been released on bail during criminal proceedings.
Clarkson was sentenced to a total of 16 weeks’ imprisonment, suspended for two years.
He was ordered to wear an alcohol abstinence monitoring tag for 120 days and complete up to 25 days of rehabilitation activity.
Clarkson must also pay £85 in prosecution costs and £50 in compensation to the police officer.
The custodial sentence was suspended as there is a realistic prospect of rehabilitation for Clarkson, the court document says.
