Manchester United's Leah Galton raises funds for memorial bench in Harrogate

Harrogate-born footballer Leah Galton is to take on a tough physical challenge this weekend in memory of her aunt.
The Manchester United winger wants to raise £1,800 to erect a memorial bench in the town.
Leah's aunty Trish was a Yorkshire nurse who became one of the first people in the county to receive a bone marrow transplant after being diagnosed with leukaemia in the 1980s.
Her younger sister — Leah's mum — donated her bone marrow.
Despite being given a short life expectancy post-operation, Trish survived another 40 years.
The radiation from her treatment eventually caused brain tumours, which she lived with for five years, before she died in May.
To raise money, Leah will complete the following physical challenge on Sunday, July 13:
- 250 wall balls
- 250 metres walking lunges
- 250 metres farmer's carry
- 125 metres sled push
- 125 metres sled pull
- 2500 metres ski ergometer
- 2500 metres rower
- 100 metres burpee broad jumps
- 10 x 1-kilometre runs
- 250 sit-ups
- 150 kcal assault bike
- 250 metres plate push
On her Gofundme page, Leah wrote:
My aunty Trish never complained, was always so brave and brought so much light to everyone despite having her own battles with life.
I would love to raise enough money to pay for a memorial bench in Harrogate, where my aunty grew up, so my mum has a place to visit where she has the fondest memories of her sister. It’s been a hard time for my family, and I’d love to be able to fulfil this for them.
I used to bake scones with my aunty regularly and I would love to have one on her bench, to share that memory with her one last time.
I will keep going until I have completed the whole challenge! If my aunty can push through what she did, I can push my body for her too.
The footballer said she will update her social media with her progress throughout the day.
