Masham Sheep Fair 2021

The annual sheep fair returns to Masham this weekend (Saturday 28 and Sunday 29).

Masham Sheep Fair was originally established as a one-off fundraising event in 1985 by Susan Cunliffe-Lister and a group of volunteers.

Up to 70,000 sheep were sold in Masham each year until the First World War.

Sheep-themed events will take place throughout the weekend to celebate the town's heritage.

Events include sheep racing, tours of the Theakston and Black Sheep breweries, sheepdog demonstrations and a sheep show.

Visitors are encouraged to buy physical programmes on the day for £2 with all proceeds going to Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

The first ever sheep fair raised over £7,950. The event quickly became established as an annual event in Masham and has since generated over £158,000 for local charities.

Last year’s event raised £11,581 for Yorkshire Air Ambulance, £500 for Masham Young Farmers, £400 for Masham Church of England Primary School, £200 for Masham Children’s Sports, and £200 for Masham Sports Association and £100 for their development fund.
