The Mayor of York and North Yorkshire has announced the second round of a £10 million high Street fund.
Labour mayor David Skaith launched the fund in February to help “boost the resilience” of local high streets.
As previously reported, a total of 18 projects across York and North Yorkshire received funding from the first tranche including four in the Harrogate district.
Now, the fund is set to open for its second round of applications.
Mr Skaith said:
High streets have always been at the heart of our communities, they aren’t dying, they’re constantly changing.
That is why I am so committed to investing in them with my Vibrant and Sustainable High Streets fund. Residents and business owners understand the challenges and unique character of their areas best, and I am here to empower their vision.
For this next phase I am looking for bigger, bolder and more innovative ideas. Together we can lead the change, so our high streets reflect local pride and meet the evolving needs of every community.
York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority said the aim of the second round was to create thriving, inclusive spaces that reflect local character, meet community needs, and spark lasting pride.
Funding for the projects in the high street fund has been allocated from the mayoral investment fund, which is worth £540 million over 30 years.
Applications for the second phase of the scheme will close at 5pm on July 31. Businesses and community groups can apply to the fund here.
