The Mother Shipton Inn is seeking planning approval to redecorate the exterior of the building and erect new signs.
The Knaresborough pub, which dates back to the 16th century, is a grade two listed building.
The inn, owned by Admiral Taverns, has sent plans to North Yorkshire Council to redecorate the exterior walls and put up illuminated and non-illuminated exterior signs.
The plans say lighter paint would be used on the exterior to “enhance the appearance of the site”.
New lighting would replace the existing lighting, which will “allow the key architectural features of the building to be highlighted without dominating the street scene”.

How the pub currently looks.
The applicant said:
Overall, we feel that our proposed scheme is sympathetic and will enhance/protect the building for many years to come.
Mother Shipton Inn changed hands in September after a short closure, following the departure of its previous tenants. It is now run by Alan Evans.
North Yorkshire Council will make a decision on the plans at a later date.
