A motorcyclist died this morning in a crash on the A59 at Flaxby, near Knaresborough.
The man in his 40s was riding a red Honda motorcycle when he was involved in a collision with a blue Vauxhall Mokka car.
The driver of the car was taken to hospital for treatment.
The incident happened at about 8am on the A59 between the junction 47 roundabout and the Flaxby roundabout.
It led to huge queues as junction 47 is a key route to Harrogate's Great Yorkshire Show.
North Yorkshire Police said in a statement the victim's family is being supported by specially-trained officers and appealed
Officers appealed for any witnesses, or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward urgently.
The statement said:
There was queuing traffic in the area at the time of the collision, including people travelling towards the Great Yorkshire Show, and officers would like to hear from anyone with information that could assist the investigation.
