A Harrogate road was used to film an explosive car crash in which two soap opera worlds collided.

Corriedale, a landmark crossover episode between ITV’s Emmerdale and Coronation Street, aired last night (January 5).

The episode saw characters from both programmes involved in a multi-vehicle pile-up, which was filmed over a 12-night period last October on a disused road outside Harrogate.

ITV would not disclose where exactly the disused road is due to it often being used for filming, but a spokesperson told the Stray Ferret:

It is a good location for filming as the road we use is not a through road so it can be closed. This means we can shoot safely without other road users and traffic.

ITV also sent us some behind-the-scenes photos, which were taken during filming on the Harrogate road. You can view them below.

The hour-long special reached up to 4.7 million viewers when it aired last night – the highest live TV ratings for a soap opera in more than a year.
