Somewhere in my early fifties, my once great teeth were starting to look a little twisted, yellow, ragged and worn. Age and wear and tear were taking their toll.
I have always taken good care of my appearance. Hair, face and teeth are “always on” as far as I’m concerned and never get a rest from public view. So they get my full attention when they need help.
I am also very conscious now of a divide, teeth-wise, between younger generations (my children in their 20s) who wouldn’t dream of having anything other than bright white, straight, shiny teeth and an older generation who didn’t have easy access to bleach and straightening options in their youth and I think it shows.
So I took the decision to sort my mouth out. I picked The Raglan Suite in Harrogate as I am a big fan of going to experts for something like this. A regular dentist might do straightening or composite bonding but far less frequently. I wanted specialist dentists who did this type of work every day. The dental clinicians at the Raglan Suite are experts in this area and had very good local reviews. I didn’t want veneers – I like my teeth. I just wanted them to look naturally better.
I began by seeing Megan Hatfield, The Raglan Suite's specialist Orthodontist, in between lockdowns back in 2021.
Out of an array of options to straighten teeth, I picked good old-fashioned tram lines. Megan advised me that it was easier to get optimum results with metal braces and regular tweaking. I also know myself. I am not going to take out a mould and brush my teeth every time I eat. I’d rather have the braces fixed and learn to live with them. It’s not a great look (I wore a mask as it was during covid which was a small bonus) but it’s temporary and, crucially, it has great results.
What I discovered was how quickly teeth move and just what perfectionists they are at The Raglan Suite. Long after I was happy with how they looked, Megan was not content. They had to be perfect. She kept tweaking..and tweaking.. and tweaking.. until 15 months later, she was done.
Before any treatment and whitening
After straightening and whitening
Stage One was complete and I was very, very happy with the result . I know you have to wear a mould each night to keep them from moving back but you soon get used to it. I loved my straightened teeth and began to whiten them before the next step.
Stage Two was to composite bond my upper front teeth that were ragged and worn. Unlike the 15 months it took to get my teeth straight, the process of composite bonding has instant gratification. Each tooth is layered with a kind of resin that matches your tooth colour and is built up to create near perfect, natural teeth.
Kim Taylor, The Raglan Suite's aesthetic dentist, is nothing short of an artist. Like a sculptor she built up each tooth, then shaped it down to perfection. She made sure that each tooth worked with the others alongside it to give my new mouth a natural look.
I should add that none of this was painful. It took just 3 hours to do my top teeth. I walked out feeling like flashing a smile at everyone.

What a difference!
I would absolutely recommend The Raglan Suite – I believe that if you are going to expense of sorting out your teeth, you get what you pay for.
