A new bar has opened in Harrogate after a soft launch last weekend.
Elysian served its first customers on Saturday in the former Golden Dry Cleaners unit on Cheltenham Crescent.
The bar has undergone an extensive refurbishment costing a significant amount.
Owner Deborah Kane said she hopes the bar will bring an “upmarket flair” to Harrogate.
Ms Kane lives in Harrogate and is a regular at Buon Gusto, the restaurant neighboring Elysian.
She said she often walked past the empty unit and became inspired to open her new business there.
She said:
I was looking at this poor empty building just thinking it was in such a good spot in a nice end of town. It gets great footfall from the Royal Hall and the conference centre and there is a nice atmosphere with all the other bars and restaurants.
I just thought it had so much potential and it was a shame it was in such a mess.
Outside Elysian
The name Elysian derives from the Greek name for heaven, an afterlife for heroes, and the interior was inspired by a trip to Albania.
Ms Kane said:
Everyone is a hero in someone’s eyes, my dad is my hero and I wanted it to be a place where everyone is celebrated, welcomed and comfortable.
I built the interior around the name, the only original thing from the old building is the walls the rest we built from the ground up.
The swing seats
The venue has three rooms and the bar features marble floors, swing seats and hand painted murals.
It has two mixologists making drinks and plans to offer table service in the coming months.
The menu features twists on classic cocktails, spritzes and high-end spirits and champagne.
The mural
Ms Kane added:
We haven’t skimped on anything, we are upmarket and innovative, but you don’t have to be a big spender to drink here, it is just about keeping standards high and offering something a bit different.
We sell champagne by the glass and have a partnership with Laurent Perrier, which a standard bar just doesn’t have. We want to offer perfection.
Elysian bar
Ms Kane said:
We will make sure everyone is welcome here, we don’t want to alienate anyone. Elysian is for everyone to enjoy. You can have a drink anywhere, but I want people to enjoy it as much as I do, I want people to enjoy this vision.
Elysian is open five days a week from 5pm on weekdays and 2pm on weekends.
