A new barber’s shop has opened on Ripon’s North Street.
The business, Ripon Barbers, opened last week (August 15) in the former Searle's Carpet Shop unit.
It is owned by Lucyanne Thompson, 37, who lives in the city. She has spent over 10 years as a barber in Ripon and previously owned the Barber Shop, also on North Street.
The Barber Shop closed when she decided to leave the industry and try her hand in hospitality, taking on Scarlett’s Vintage Tea Rooms in Knaresborough.
Ms Thompson has since sold the tea rooms but cutting hair is her passion.
She said:
I took on the tea rooms because I wanted a change but I missed doing barbering, and realised it is my calling. I missed the clients and the conversation.
I love North Street, it’s where I originally started and it seems to be a good street for barbering, it has good footfall, and we are in a good position near the traffic lights on the corner

She revealed that the shop has undergone a six-week renovation costing £6,000.
The demographic of the barber’s is men aged between 10-75 years old.
There will be two barbers in the shop and with their joint clientele, Ms Thompson says she is confident about opening in the city centre.
She said:
You don’t have to come in just for a haircut, anyone can come in for a chat, I’m a good listener and a haircut here isn’t just in and out. I am a believer that a barber’s should be a home from home.
Everyone I have spoken to is very excited that Sean and I are back.
The shop will be open from 9.30am-9pm. Ms Thompson will work 9.30am-3pm while Sean will have the chair from 3-9pm. Haircuts will begin at £11.
