A new organisation has been launched in Knaresborough to help bring the town together through free events.
Eventure Knaresborough is a collaboration of organisations and is supported by the Mayor of York and North Yorkshire, David Skaith, and funded by the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority.
Its development has been spearheaded by Chain Lane Community Hub, where it has just held its first meeting.
One of the people present was Bill Taylor, who is a member of Rotary Revolution and is on the Knaresborough Christmas Market committee.
He told the Stray Ferret:
It’s aimed at existing and new events in Knaresborough. This town has something like 300 community groups, and most of them simply don’t have the resources or the experience to put on events.
It’s also getting harder to put on public events, because of rising costs, the lack of volunteers, and the security measures that have to be taken.
So we’re hoping Eventure will put in place an infrastructure for events that can be used as a template or blueprint usable by any group that wants to hold an event.
For example, if your event needs a road closure, it can get fiendishly complex, but Eventure could potentially help with that.
The group is made up of representatives from a variety of organisations, including Lions Club, Knaresborough District Chamber of Commerce, Rotary and Rotary Revolution, Feva, Inspire Youth, Knaresborough Museums Association and Knaresborough Town Council.
Mr Taylor said:
It’s quite a new thing to have such a wide-ranging collaboration of organisations in Knaresborough.
We hope that this will lead to increased cooperation between groups, safeguard existing events, and put more weight behind new events.
The group’s first new event, organised by Knaresborough Chamber, will be the screening of Tinsel Town – the Hollywood film that was filmed in Knaresborough – at four venues in the town on December 5.
The film, which stars Kiefer Sutherland, Rebel Wilson and Danny Dyer, will be shown at The Hart, The George & Dragon and Dragon, The Orange Grove and 1858.
Eventure’s steering group will be holding a meet-and-greet event at Chain Lane Community Hub on Tuesday, December 16, from 12.30 to 1.30pm.
