A new auction house will open near Harrogate on Monday (July 15).

The Stray Ferret revealed in March that plans had been submitted to open an auction house at Springfield Farm Business Park, near Kettlesing.

Now Nidderdale Auctions Ltd has revealed it will hold regular household contents and furniture sales from the site, which is just off the A59.

Sales will be held weekly on Saturdays and bidders will be able to attend in person, or they can place an absentee bid or bid online.

The company also hopes to organise specialist motor car and designer and vintage clothes auctions in the future.

Springfield Farm is seven miles east of Harrogate and less than five miles away from Thompson’s Auctioneers at Killinghall.

The business is a new venture by Emma Thompson, 48, daughter of Bryan Thompson – the founder of Thompson’s Auctioneers.

Ms Thompson was born and raised in Hampsthwaite, where her parents have lived for 75 years.

Mr Thompson founded Thompson's Auctioneers in 1989 and retired in 2012. Ms Thompson worked alongside him and left when he retired.

She said:

I’ve always wanted to open up an auction house of my own, it’s obviously in the blood. The problem is finding the right warehouse which ticks boxes and Springfield Farm Business Park was perfect.

We are nothing to do with Thompson's Auctioneers, we are a completely new business.

Ms Thompson added that it was “hoping to sell between 350-550 lots per week, including jewellery and books as well as furniture".

The 5,000 square foot auction house is accompanied by over 100 parking spaces.

The business will employ two full-time staff — Ms Thompson and Phil Sands, the saleroom manager. There will also be six part-time staff and help from friends and family.

The opening hours will be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 9am to 5pm, Thursday by appointment only and Friday 4.30pm to 7.30pm for viewing.

Viewings will begin on Saturday at 9am and auctions will start at 11am.
