Dear Reader, this article is free to read. We publish about 100 articles a week all exclusively focused on local news. Please support independent local journalism by subscribing here. It costs as little as 14p a day.

New town trails have been launched to help visitors and residents explore Harrogate.

Harrogate Civic Society, in partnership with the West Park Centre, devised the trails.

They include an updated town centre plaques trail and new trails covering High Harrogate’s plaques, Harrogate’s floral attractions, town centre churches and a town trail that comes in a full booklet version and a separate trail map.

Five of the trails are free whilst the booklet costs £2.

Michael Newby, chair of Harrogate Civic Society, said:

I hope that these trails will help to create a greater knowledge of Harrogate’s heritage and perhaps reveal information about places and people that even locals didn’t know.

There is also an added benefit as heritage trails have been shown to increase higher dwell time and increased retail footfall in towns. Naturally we want visitors to stay as long as possible in town but I hope that these trails and the work the West Park Centre is doing with, for example The Harrogate Story exhibition will increase local interest in our heritage.

I would also like to say a big thank you to Chris Dicken of the civic cociety who has put these trail leaflets together for us.

Copies of the trails are available from the visitor information point in the West Park Centre in West Park URC and from the tourist information centre at the Royal Pump Room Museum.
