Students at North Rigton CE Primary School were welcomed back on their first day with the surprise of a new outdoor play area.
The school year started again last Tuesday (September 2) with a new playground and outdoor discovery space created and installed by York-based company Playscheme and opened by the chief executive of the Yorkshire Causeway Schools Trust, Jane Goodwin.
The play area was funded by school capital and money raised by the Friends of North Rigton group.
The Dads of North Rigton group raised just over £4,000, half of which went to North Rigton Primary School. There was also an individual Justgiving page that raised over £450.
It's hoped that the play area will give the children a dedicated area to increase their fitness, skill and encourage them to be more active.
The discovery space is a learning area that will be a quieter and calmer setting and used for outdoor lessons.
A spokesperson for Yorkshire Causeway Schools Trust said:
As the children explore their new surroundings and dive into a fresh year of learning, the atmosphere is one of joy, gratitude, and anticipation. What a fantastic start to the school year!
