A North Yorkshire Police officer will face a misconduct hearing next month following a string of allegations.
According to a notice of the misconduct hearing posted by the force, PC 131 Adam Bray allegedly breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour for police officers, specifically the standards of: duties and responsibilities; authority, respect and courtesy; honesty and integrity, and discreditable conduct.
The notice details a series of accusations made against Bray.
It alleged Bray failed to respond to a complaint of a serious sexual offence whilst attending a domestic incident on August 5, 2022.
Bray also allegedly failed to listen to and/or act upon information relayed to him by the Force Control Room, the victim and the suspect, and failed to inform supervisors of the alleged serious sexual offence.
The notice claims Bray failed to listen to or have regard for the concerns of the victim in her report of a domestic incident and a serious sexual assault. It alleges:
PC Bray was dismissive of the victim’s concerns for her safety and welfare, as well as that of her young daughter. PC Bray failed to carry out the appropriate and necessary checks into the background of the suspect and failed to investigate the reported serious sexual offence.
On the same day, Bray attended a report of a vulnerable member of the public.
But he allegedly failed to carry appropriate and relevant checks, and failed to use his police powers to intervene in order to protect the man’s welfare.
North Yorkshire Police said it is contended that, if proven, the allegations either individually or cumulatively amount to gross misconduct.
The public hearing will be held at North Yorkshire Police’s headquarters in Northallerton from March 3 to March 7.
