A North Yorkshire Police officer who was rewarded for saving a man's life will face a gross misconduct hearing next week.

PC 772 John Axcell is alleged to have bombarded a former partner with messages despite being asked not to.

After persistently messaging his ex-partner on WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook messenger asking to meet, and getting blocked, he then created another profile on TikTok to make contact, it is claimed.

A police notice of the hearing also alleges PC Axcell 'caused his former partner to be in fear of him, and/or anxious, and/or alarmed, and/or distressed'.

The notice claims PC Axcell breached professional standards of behaviour relating to authority, respect and courtesy and discreditable conduct.

It is said to have happened over a four-month period between August and December 2023.

The notice says:

The above breaches the standards of professional behaviour and are so serious that individually and/or cumulatively amount to gross misconduct.

PC Axcell was awarded the Royal Humane Society Certificates of Commendation in 2022, for saving a man from bleeding to death after he was glassed in Scarborough.

The hearing will begin at 10am on Monday, March 9 at the force's Alverton Court headquarters. The public can attend.

It will be chaired by assistant chief officer Sarah Jackson.
