The annual Northern Aldborough Festival will welcome an array of musicians swapping prestigious New York concert halls for the Aldborough village church next week.

Founded in 1994, the festival is celebrating its 30th year of bringing classical music to a rural setting near Boroughbridge.

Among the festival’s line-up is Sir Tony Robinson, best known for his role in TV's Blackadder. The actor is set to appear as a speaker on June 20.

Alim Beisembayev, winner of the 2021 Leeds International Piano Competition, will kick off the festival on June 13 with a performance of Chopin’s First Piano Concerto.

The other international musicians set to perform throughout the week include Jack Hancher, Adriana Babin, and the Mikeleiz-Zucchi Duo.

On June 22, the festival will reach a crescendo with a closing performance from Majesty, a Queen tribute band.

A £7,000 prize will be awarded to the winner of The New Voices Singing Competition, which will return to the festival this year for the second time. The competition will showcase the highlights of the UK’s emerging classical vocal talent, all hoping to strike a chord with the panel of distinguished judges.

Robert Ogden, director of the festival, said:

You will be amazed at the quality of the eight young semi-finalists that have been selected. These are among the finest young singers in the country and are just at the beginning of what will surely be highly successful careers.

Last year’s winners, Lea Shaw and Kristina Yorgova, will demonstrate this with their winning recital.

The festival will run from June 13 to June 22. Tickets are available here.
