The Marks & Spencer foodhall at Oatlands in Harrogate closed again today (June 24) due to a power cut.

Shoppers alerted us to the first closure yesterday. One person told us staff appeared to be wheeling stacks of refrigerated items out of the shop to back-up cold storage.

When we approached M&S, a spokesperson told us:

The power cut occurred at around 2.30pm but the power is now back on with the team working to get back open to our customers as quickly as possible.

The spokesperson added the outage was believed to be due to a problem at a sub-station nearby:

However, National Powergrid told us it was unaware of any outages in the area at that time.

The store, on Leeds Road, reopened at 7.30pm last night. However, this morning we were informed the frozen food section looked "bare".

The store then closed again this afternoon following another power cut.

A source told us staff didn't know what was going on but food was usually thrown out if the fridges are off for more than an hour.

We have asked M&S for further details of the incidents, including how much food had to be disposed, but have not received a response.
