Turkish Baths Harrogate has announced that its long-serving team member Bob has died.
Bob greeted thousads of visitors to the council-owned Victorian baths on Parliament Street and loved to chat.
In a social media post today (August 5), the baths said he died on Saturday "after a short but incredibly brave battle with a brain tumour" surrounded by his family.
The post added:
Whether you knew Bob for many years or only a short time, he was a huge part of our Turkish Baths family. As a Turkish Baths attendant and a history tour guide, his humour, his endless supply of jokes, and his chattiness touched all of us.
He became famous on TripAdvisor for all the wonderful comments visitors left about him. We loved that while he was recovering from a stroke, customers would often ask, 'Where's Bob?'. It was a true testament to how much he meant to everyone who came through our doors.
Bob amazed visitors with his ability to know random facts about wherever they were from.
After his stroke rehabilitation, he returned to the baths and continued to be part of the team until just a few weeks ago.
The post added:
His presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will stay with us always. He will remain a huge part of the team.
People have been quick to pay tribute to Bob's warmth and humour.
One described him as "kind, caring and a very witty man" while another said he was "very much the face of the Turkish Baths".
