An outdoor retailer is to close its Harrogate store and be taken over by its predecessor.
George Fisher, a Keswick-based outdoor equipment company, opened in February last year in the Station Parade unit formerly occupied by Blacks.
Both companies are part of Tiso, which anchors JD Sports’ specialist outdoor division.
George Fisher has a flagship store in Cumbria, which opened in 1957, and a shop in Bath.
However, less than 18 months after opening its doors, the Harrogate site is closing.
Signs advertising a “closing down sale” have been put up and a member of staff at George Fisher today (May 28) told the Stray Ferret the store will close in September.
But although the George Fisher name will disappear, Blacks will return.
When the Stray Ferret asked the member of staff at George Fisher if the seven employees’ jobs will be saved, they said the unit will reopen as Blacks and jobs will be transferred.
The Stray Ferret asked the staff member why the store is closing, but they said they did not know.
We approached a separate representative for the company to ask why the Harrogate shop is shutting, but we had not received a response at the time of publication.
We will provide more information when it becomes available.
