Over 800 people attend Knaresborough Glastonbury screening
Hundreds of people attended a free live screening of Glastonbury in Knaresborough on Saturday night.
Party in the Castle took place in the grounds of Knaresborough Castle.
More than 800 people gathered around a giant screen displaying the BBC’s Glastonbury coverage.
The event took place from 5pm to 11pm, with Coldplay as the headline act at 10pm.
This is the second year running that organisers Kelly Teggin and Knaresborough & District Chamber have brought the excitement of Glastonbury to the town, and the rain added to the British festival feeling.
Organiser, Kelly Teggin said:
We had a massive turnout of 800-900 people. It started raining for an hour which thinned out the crowd, but it was apparent the rain was not going to stop the fun. The hardcore festival-goers stayed, and I would like to thank everyone who stuck it out.
The atmosphere was fantastic, and it was a really authentic Glastonbury experience. The last hour was the best, everyone enjoying Coldplay, dancing and singing.

The event was free to attend and had 10 volunteers to help marshal the event. It was supported by North Yorkshire Council and independent traders.
Councillor Matt Walker, a Liberal Democrat who represents Knaresborough West, awarded £2,500 from his Locality budget to fund the big screen. Every councillor can spend up to £10,000 a year on community initiatives.
Ms Teggin added:
I also want to thank the whole Knaresborough community it was really heartwarming to see everyone enjoying the event.
There were people of all ages who were happy we had put the event on and thanking us for organising it. It was lovely to see everyone respecting the Castle Yard and taking their rubbish away.

Ms Teggin aims to run the event again next year and said she expected it to be even more popular due to Glastonbury not going ahead the year after, in 2026, to let the land recover.
