Part of one of Harrogate’s main arterial routes is shut for almost six weeks.
Northern Powergrid today (January 5) started work on Otley Road to install ducting as part of its 11KV and 33KV schemes.
The work is being delivered by contractor Balfour Beatty and is expected to be completed by February 15, when the road is due to reopen.
When the Stray Ferret visited Otley Road today, the road was blocked off from the Prince of Wales roundabout exit.
Traffic was able to move in the opposite direction down Otley Road – towards the roundabout – from the Trinity Road junction.

The road is closed from the Otley Road exit at the Prince of Wales roundabout.
The road is blocked off in both directions from the Beech Grove junction, but the closure ends just before the crossroads with Cold Bath Road and Arthurs Avenue.
Traffic was moving freely at the crossroads (pictured below) when the Stray Ferret visited this afternoon. However, that was before the evening rush hour.

The closure ends just before the Otley Road/Cold Bath Road/Arthurs Avenue junction.
Motorists cannot access Otley Road from Beech Grove, Queens Road, Victoria Road, Park Avenue and West End Avenue whilst the closure is in place.
According to Causeway one.network – a live roadworks map – the closure will be in effect “all the time”.
