A Pateley Bridge church is to celebrate 30 years of female priests in the Church of England.
St Cuthbert’s Church, which is part of the Church of England United Parish of Upper Nidderdale, will hold a special service to mark the occasion.
The momentous 1994 day saw the Bishop of Bristol, Barry Rogerson, permit 32 women to become the first female Anglican priests.
Reverend Darryl Hall, vicar of the Upper Nidderdale parish, told the Stray Ferret he wanted to celebrate the occasion to recognise the “profound influence of the inspiring women clergy”.
He added:
[They] have not only shaped the lives of countless individuals but have also guided, and continue to guide, me on my own journey in the ministry.
A dedicated eucharist, which will include a service of Holy Communion, will be held in celebration.
Reverend Hall said anyone is welcome join and people are invited to “share in this moment of reflection and gratitude”.
The service will be held on Saturday, September 14 at 4pm. It will be followed by refreshments.
Those hoping to attend are advised to RSVP, so the church has an idea of numbers. You can email darryl.hall@leeds.anglican.org to do so.
