A woman who was arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run in Pateley Bridge has been released from custody.
19-year-old Bailey Chadwick died after being struck by a vehicle on the B6265 between Pateley Bridge and Glasshouses in the early hours of Sunday, July 20.
North Yorkshire Police yesterday (July 30) said a woman in her 20s had been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.
The news came just days after a 24-year-old man, who was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving last week, was bailed and banned from entering North Yorkshire.
But police today told the Stray Ferret the woman has since been released under investigation.
The force has urged the public not to speculate on social media to avoid prejudicing any potential future court proceedings.
Inspector Jill Cowling, who is leading the investigation, yesterday said:
This investigation has progressed which has led to us making a second arrest today.
Our enquiries are still very much ongoing, and we are still appealing for members of the public to contact us with any relevant information.
Specially trained officers are supporting Bailey’s family, and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.
Police are still appealing for information and have urged anyone who might be able to assist their investigation to get in touch.
Yesterday’s statement added:
We continue to appeal for information, if you can help, please email the Major Collision Investigation Team at mcit@northyorkshire.police.uk or call North Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting reference number 12250133851.
Alternatively, please contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or make an online report. Again, quote reference number 12250133851.
