This stunning photo of a kingfisher perched on a branch looking for fish was taken on the River Ure near Ripon by reader Douglas Young.

He says:

This is an adult male kingfisher, as shown by the all-black beak and bright orange feet, while females have an orange-red patch on the lower mandible.
