A 22-year-old man has died following a light aircraft crash near Masham on Wednesday (February 18).
Emergency services were called to the Himalayan Gardens and Sculpture Park in the Grewelthorpe area at around 12.20pm that day following reports of the incident.
The man, who has not been named but was the only occupant of the plane, was seriously injured and airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary.
However, North Yorkshire Police today (February 20) said the man died in hospital last night.
His family members are aware and are being supported by specially trained officers.
The force yesterday issued an appeal for witnesses and footage of the crash.
Detective chief inspector Matt Wilkinson today added:
Despite the best efforts of emergency service responders at the scene, and hospital staff, the pilot has tragically passed away.
We are now conducting a joint investigation with the Air Accidents Investigation Branch, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.
I continue to appeal to anyone who may have information or footage of the aircraft, which departed from Sherburn in Elmet near Selby, to come forward.
Police urged anyone with information to email matthew.wilkinson@northyorkshire.police.uk or call North Yorkshire Police on 101. Callers should ask for Matthew Wilkinson.
