Plans to convert a former frozen food warehouse into homes in Bishop Thornton have been withdrawn.
Wetherby-based WIP Group submitted plans in November last year to demolish vacant units at the ex-Gilmoor Foods site and replace them with four homes.
Consultants Johnson Mowat said in a planning statement in support of the scheme that the site was currently occupied by 'large industrial units which are negative contributors to the landscape setting' and the development on brownfield land would have no adverse environmental impact.
The 2.5-hectare site, which was occupied by Gilmoor Foods for 20 years until 2023, is two kilometres from the Bishop Thornton centre.
The planning statement also included a supporting statement from residents of the adjacent Gilmoor Farm.
It said:
Since the property has been vacant, the buildings have started to fall into significant disrepair. While we welcome the ‘peace and quiet’ of not having vans and lorries servicing the site, the buildings are frankly becoming a blight on the beautiful surroundings where we live.
However, a decision notice appeared on North Yorkshire Council's website on Monday (March 17) saying the application has been withdrawn. No reason has been given.
Speaking to the Stray Ferret today (March 19), Leon Wheeler, owner of WIP Group, said that North Yorkshire Council had advised that the planning application would not be approved in its current state.
He added that his company will resubmit the application once tweaks have been made.
