Police called to manage traffic ‘chaos’ as eclipse fever grips Almscliffe Crag
Police were called to manage traffic in North Rigton tonight (August 12) as crowds headed to Almscliffe Crag to see the eclipse.
People have been scrambling for the best spots to view the phenomenon, which has seen 90% of the sun covered by the moon.
For many, that meant heading to high points, and Almscliffe Crag proved particularly popular.
That put pressure on roads in the village of North Rigton.
North Yorkshire Police officers were forced to intervene as bumper-to-bumper vehicles caused what locals described as ‘chaos’ in the village by parking on verges and double parking.
