North Yorkshire Police's Alverton Court headquarters.

A North Yorkshire Police officer has been accused of downloading indecent images of children.

The officer, who has not been named, faces a misconduct hearing at the force’s Alverton Court headquarters in Northallerton on Monday (April 7).

Chief constable Tim Forber has ruled the case will be heard in secret.

The person, referred to as Officer A, faces dismissal if found guilty of breaching the force’s standards of professional behaviour by ‘discreditable conduct’.

A police notice of the hearing said:

Officer A is alleged to have searched for, downloaded, opened and stored indecent images of children on their home computer.

It is alleged these matters individually and collectively amount to gross misconduct, namely a breach of the standards of professional behaviour that, if proved, is so serious that the officer’s dismissal would be justified.

The Stray Ferret asked North Yorkshire Police where the officer was based in the county. A spokesperson said it was unable to provide any further information.
