One of Bilton’s best-known businesses has been put up for sale.
Roots & Fruits, the family-run greengrocer and farm shop on King Edward’s Drive, is listed on business sales portal Rightbiz, with an asking price of £74,950.
According to the listing, owners Julia Corbett and James Soar are selling due to illness in the family.
Roots & Fruits has been a fixture of Bilton’s business landscape since it was established in 2017. It sells fruit, vegetables, plants and also seasonal items such as Christmas trees.
When Julia Corbett, who co-owns it with partner James Soar, spoke to the Stray Ferret for a Business Q&A in June, she told us that they try to run the business as ethically as possible, buying from local farmers and offering a refill facility for loose foods.
She told us:
We sell local honey, fresh milk in glass bottles from local suppliers, and strawberries from Spilman's in Helperby that are the best you'll ever eat.
Nearly everything can be bought locally. It usually tastes better and it doesn't have loads of food miles on it.

The business also delivers produce and counts several big company names among its customers.
The Rightbiz listing – which shows the company turnover as £258,583, or £4,973 per week – ends:
We trust this will prove a resoundingly successful acquisition, especially for a younger, dedicated, enthusiastic purchaser to continue to exploit the full potential and to derive maximum profits.
