The road closed sign at the entry to High Skellgate

High Skellgate, one of the principal routes into Ripon city centre, remains closed this morning (Monday) after a burst water main brought its closure last week.

The burst main has been repaired, but the road is still closed to all through traffic while contractors carry out back filling and resurfacing works.

In the meantime, motorsts are having to follow diversions which are adding to journey times.

Last week, a spokespersopn for Yorkshire Water, said:

We have worked with the council to implement road closures and appropriate traffic management as a result of the burst and the subsequent damage to the road surface, as well as to ensure the safety of both our team and local road users and pedestrians.

Our teams are working as quickly as possible to reinstate the road, and we are expecting to remove the closures and traffic management on 17 September.

We understand how inconvenient road closures can be. We apologise for any impact and thank those in the area for their patience throughout.
