The following comments were left under an article about a six-month closure of a Harrogate bridge to undertake work to replace its wooden handrails.
I wonder how many people fell to their deaths in 17 to 20th centuries before the vital safety handrails were installed! The indifference to common sense is astounding.
Tim Cameron-Jones
Why can’t the council pay a local contractor to do the job. Knox Sawmills only up the road for supply of wood. Job could be finished this time next week.
Brian Varley
I wonder if they are aware what utter fools they look making these sorts of announcements.
Paul Reynolds
So it takes the council 6 months to basically replace a handrail? What a set of clowns.
Serena Barker
The following letter was addressed to the Mayor of Harrogate about the parklands outside Valley Gardens and the Stray.
Please can you give an up-date to the tax-payers of Harrogate as to when the parklands outside of the Valley Gardens and the Stray will receive their necessary and much needed up-keep? Jennyfield parkland and playing areas have not been mowed since early spring and are now virtually unusable. Many of our communal pathways are very over grown and impassable. I note the Ripon Mayor has publicly and with some success challenged North Yorkshire Council on this issue and this approach needs to be replicated in Harrogate asap.
A prompt reply to myself and the media will be helpful.
John Needham, Harrogate
