Readers’ Letters is a free weekly column giving you the chance to have your say on issues affecting the Harrogate district. It is an opinion column and does not reflect the views of the Stray Ferret. Send your views to letters@thestrayferret.co.uk.
This letter followed the news that a 32-metre high vision wheel has returned to Harrogate.
I came into town this morning and was hit by the sight of the Ferris wheel in front of the war memorial. Who approved it? It is just not Harrogate and totally destroys this area. Also, the timing around VJ Day is insensitive.
We should be celebrating the flowers, trees and other such delights which Harrogate is known for. The grassed area in front of the war memorial will look awful for the rest of the year and then we will have Christmas. No doubt it has something to do with North Yorkshire Council, who seem determined to destroy Harrogate one way or another.
Let's hope we don't get a repeat this Christmas. What we need is a very large Christmas tree in the same location simply lit. What says Christmas more than that?
Barry Adams, Harrogate
These comments were left on a recent article about how disabled motorists could lose a key concession under proposed changes to local parking.
Did we have a vote when HBC was disbanded? it is the worst thing to have happend to Harrogate. Next they will be telling the disabled that £10 fee does not cover the admin cost for the blue badge.
Keith Taylor
A lot of words that say nothing. I believe more clarification is required by the the council as most of us do not understand gobbledegook.
Paul Clarke
There are some places like Pateley Bridge where there is very limited parking other than the council car park. What there is is on a steep road. These free spaces are nearly always full from residential cars. This is madness for blue badge holders who are blind or with other disabilities.
